You may have noticed that the banner of cubieboard.org has changed to a little monkey. As the community discussed before on the Cubieboard mascot contest thread, we choose the Golden Snub-nosed Monkey as the mascot of the Cubieboard, which is a special species of monkey in China and is liked by both adults and children in China.

One friend of us, Miss Yueyuan helped design the cartoon of the golden snub-nosed monkey based on the picture took by floridapfe. The little golden snub-nosed monkey has its thumb in its mouth, which is very cute. It reminds me of my 4-months-old daughter, who keeps her thumbs in her mouth too. I like this picture very much, so i asked Miss Yueyuan to design the cartoon based on this eating hand golden snub-nosed monkey.

So here it is:

Once Yueyuan showed me it, i love it. It’s cute, simple, plain, only three colours, no shadows. I hope you guys like it too. Let’s welcome the little cubie that has joined our community!

I also asked Yueyuan to make a few wallpapers for us. The artwork can be downloaded at the Download page, at the Media section. There are wallpapers, logos and banners for downloading. The license of these artwork is Attribution-ShareAlike(CC BY-SA 3.0). You can remix, tweak, and build upon these artwork even for commercial purposes, as long as you credit us and license their new creations under the identical terms.

Baseboard Available

George Ioakimedes of IO Technologies, LLC (a USA based company) is announcing the availability of their Baseboard for Cubieboard. This is a very important addition to the Cubieboard community.

As George explains it. “A Baseboard is a developer board and, like the Cubieboard, is very extensible and can connect to a variety of devices including sensors. To simplify the connection to additional devices, it is common to have an additional printed circuit called daughterboard or baseboard. This board is a baseboard, because it acts as a base to the Cubieboard. The Cubieboard can take power from this baseboard.”

He also adds this. “Personally I think using 1 power supply for everything and having on board switching regulators for 5.0V and 3.3V is very useful for people wanting to connect devices to the GPIO headers. What good is this development board if you don’t start connecting things to it and with this board you have 3.3V and 5.0V available on the header as well as powering the Cubie. Also having the audio amplifier on board is nice (for some people), with a speaker header for those applications which require sound. Then you could create a nice little box with screen, speakers, and Cubieboard”

Update on Indiegogo campaign

Here is the update that was sent today to those that took part in the Indiegogo campaign. If you had selected a Rich package or a package with special delivery, then you should have already received your Cubieboard in December 2012.

Another quick update, we have shipped around 1300 boards all together now. And the tracking numbers are sent out.
We will ship another batch today, which are those who confirm address late. There are more than 100 boards are still here waiting for their owners.
If you did not receive the tracking number or the address confirmation email, please send mail to indiegogo at cubieboard.org and query.

Therefore, if you are still expecting your Cubieboard from the Indiegogo campaign, check your e-mails for the tracking number. If you did not receive a tracking number, send an e-mail with your details (your name and e-mail address that you gave when registering for Indiegogo) to the address indiegogo at cubieboard.org.

The Cubieboard is a developer board that is based on the Allwinner A10 System-On-Chip (SoC). The full technical details for the Cubieboard are available at the sunxi wiki.

The email says

You can check the tracking number at the Hong Kong Post website. However, the tracking number will not be valid yet for your national post office. Your national post office tracking website will receive the tracking number once the parcel has reached your country and has been processed locally.

New case sample back

In the previous post, Mr Xu has helped us design a case for the Cubieboard. Now the sample cases are back. The case comes in two versions, black and white, and transparent. It looks like the transparent one doesn’t look as good as in the picture. View the gallery for more photos.

Baseboard for the Cubieboard

A developer board like the Cubieboard is very extensible and can connect to a variety of devices including sensors. To simplify the connection to additional devices, it is common to have an additional printed circuit called ~~daughterboard or~~ baseboard.

edit (15 Jan 2013): This board is a baseboard, because it acts as a base to the Cubieboard. The Cubieboard can take power from this baseboard.
